Purpose

We would like to Christians grow in their burden for and involvement in adoption, foster care and other orphan care ministries.

​

In Isaiah 1:17, God calls on his people to “defend the cause of the fatherless.”  The word "defend" is a word for a government’s general care for its people.  Here in Isaiah 1, God is not merely calling governmental leaders to the care of the fatherless.  He is calling all His people to this ministry.  This is why James reiterates that “religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world” (1:27).

Ministry to the fatherless is close to God’s heart…He is “father to the fatherless” (Ps. 68:4).  Through the person and work of Jesus Christ, God has rescued sinful, estranged orphans and brought us into His family…making us sons (Gal. 4:4-7; Eph. 1:5).  Our prayer is that in our firm commitment to educating Christians and facilitating opportunities to be involved with the care of orphans, we will step out, in faith, to minister to the fatherless.

Caring for orphans may be an area in which you may have interest, but there are a lot of unknowns.  Where do you start?  What is the difference between being a foster parent and adopting?  Are there any organizations in Indiana that can help me be involved?  Is international adoption something that only celebrities and other rich people can afford to do?

These are great questions. To help answer them, you'll find information here on (1) events in our community and (2) resources that will help answer them. In addition, we will occasionally host events at GRBC to help educate those wanting to be involved or already involved in orphan care.
